A guttering downpipe, also called a roof drainpipe, is a vertical pipe that directs rainwater from the gutter down to the ground.
Downpipes may not make your home exterior as beautiful as you envisioned; however, they are essential in protecting your home from the elements. They lead rainwater away from your building’s foundation into a drain where the water can safely be poured into.
The biggest problem with downpipes is that they can easily clog with debris. Leaves, twigs, dirt, and even small animals can cause a blockage inside the downpipe. When these accumulate, they make it difficult for rainwater to pass through and drain properly.
A downpour of rain can devastate your roof and may even cause flooding if your home is not protected. Even moisture can damage your walls and lessen the integrity of your foundation. That is why functional gutters and downpipes are integral to a well-maintained home guttering system.
At EASY FALL® Guttering, we offer innovative gutters and downpipes, along with leaf and ember guards all designed to keep your system debris free and operational with minimal maintenance. Here’s a rule of thumb to determine how many downpipes you need to install. You can divide the roof catchment area by the maximum allowable catchment per downpipe, and then round up to the nearest whole number.
When installing your gutter system, it’s important to determine how many downpipes (or downspouts) you need for your home. A higher number of downpipes installed in your home can increase the efficiency of your gutter system. If you only have one or two downpipes installed and they break down, they render your gutter system useless.
The biggest problem with guttering is incorrect fall. Easy Fall Guttering solves this problem with our amazing adjustable bracket which ensure ALL the water gets to your downpipes whilst looking perfectly straight from the outside, and in most cases stops the need for extra downpipes to be installed.
As a homeowner, you must be diligent in maintaining your downpipes and your gutter system in general. Schedule a regular maintenance for your gutter system at least twice a year. Inspect your downpipes for accumulated debris and look for leaks along the joints and rusting that may cause holes in your downpipe.
